5 killed in northeast Georgia crash

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Georgia state police say five people have been killed in a crash on a northeast Georgia highway.

Authorities tell The Times of Gainesville that the wreck happened Monday morning on Athens Highway at Oak Grove Road, east of Gainesville.

Authorities have said an SUV crossed the median and hit a tractor-trailer head on. Officials say the tractor-trailer then overturned. State patrol Cpt. C.E. Parker told the newspaper the five who were killed were riding in the same vehicle.

Trooper Jonathan Munger says the driver, a passenger and two children in the SUV were pronounced dead on the scene. A third child was airlifted to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.
