The Transportation Security Administration has opened a site in Chattanooga to permit expedited passenger screening so air travelers can avoid time-consuming steps to pass through airport security checkpoints.

Called the TSA Pre? Application Program, it allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and have some liquids and gels bag in a carry-on bag.

The center is located at 6231 Perimeter Drive, Suite 177. Its hours are Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents will now be able to go through a pre-enrollment process online at www.TSA.gov, make an appointment and complete their enrollment at the application center to verify their identity, present documentation to confirm their citizenship and immigration status and provide fingerprints, according to TSA.

Applicants with questions can contact the Universal Enrollment Call Center at 1-855-347-8371 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

TSA is currently in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centers across the country.
