GA cafe owner wants to rebuild after devastating fire

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. - A businessman says he hopes to rebuild his cafe, which was destroyed by a large fire that swept through downtown Clarkesville.

Sweet Breads Cafe co-owner Lee Hull tells The Times of Gainesville that that he wants to rebuild it, though it will be hard to replace the character of the restaurant that was housed in an 80-year-old building.

Firefighters responded to the initial blaze at the Sweet Breads Cafe, housed in an old warehouse that dates to the 1930s, around 11 p.m. Wednesday. The flames quickly spread from the restaurant and damaged other businesses in the Habersham County town about 80 miles northeast of Atlanta.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Habersham County Chamber of Commerce President Judy Taylor said the entire community is distraught.
