River City Showcase benefits local Shriners, kids

After selling out last year's small show, Jimmy Tawater is back to help raise money to benefit the Alhambra Shrine.

The local musician is even bringing along a few friends, like Roger Allen Wade and Janella Hayes, for the group's River City Showcase, being held at the Tivoli Theatre Saturday, March 29.

"It's rock 'n' roll, country music, and (Jimmy's) real popular around here," said Wayne Lamb, the Shriner in charge of organizing this year's event. "They do a performance at Riverbend each year so we're going to have them here for this too."

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Alhambra Shrine in East Brainerd, which has 1,800 members from anywhere between Fort Payne, Ala., and Crossville, Tenn.

The international Shriners organization helps children through its network of hospitals, and the local group is constantly transporting the region's sick children to those in Lexington, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio.

"The Shriners also do a lot of other good things for children; anything we can," Lamb said. "We help children up to 18 years of age with health problems and financial need."

Tickets cost $15 and are available at chattanoogaonstage.com.
