The "church with the flowers" in Soddy-Daisy is set to spread the flora to its neighbors Saturday, April 5.
Daisy United Methodist Church is holding its third annual plant giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.
"We feel part of our mission as a church is to not only take care of our people but take care of God's earth and help improve things," said church lay leader Bill Haley. "We've got several people in the church who are avid gardeners."
Haley himself cultivates his own garden that features 150 divisions of plants, some of which will be given away at the event.
The plants are free, and each attendee can choose up to three to take home. Monetary donations are welcome, said Haley, but are not necessary.
"We'll have a good variety [of plants]," he said, naming asters, wild geranium, irises, bee balm, various herbs and perhaps some vegetable seedlings. "We feel like we are helping to beautify Soddy-Daisy."
Last year, the church gave away between 300 and 400 plants and the event saw 150-plus attendees, he said.
The "flower church" already beautifies Soddy-Daisy thanks to church member Rodney Hinds's green thumb.
"Right now we have got literally hundreds of daffodils blooming [at the church], and many different kinds," said Haley. "We have people that come by the church just to take pictures with the flowers [which change with the season]. They are so pretty throughout the year."
Daisy United Methodist Church is located at 9508 Old Dayton Pike in Soddy-Daisy.
