Hamilton County commissioners unanimously approved Mayor Jim Coppinger's proposal to fund four school construction or addition projects.

Projects include a new school to replace Ganns Middle Valley Elementary and Falling Water Elementary, plus additions at Sale Creek Middle-High, Nolan Elementary and Falling Creek Elementary. That leaves out a long-anticipated replacement of the Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts and a new middle school for East Hamilton County.

Altogether, the county committed to spending about $50 million on the four facilities projects.

In recent days, parents from CSLA have taken to the streets to petition commissioners to complete their school, which has sat on a schools facilities to-do list since at least 1999. But at Wednesday's commission meeting, parents from Nolan, Sale Creek and Ganns all made a showing, too, to voice support for their schools.
