(AP Photo/NBC Chicago, Kenneth Webster, File)CHICAGO - A federal investigator says the operator of a Chicago commuter train that crashed at O'Hare International Airport acknowledged she dozed off before the accident and told investigators of another recent event in which she overshot a station platform.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Ted Turpin said Wednesday that the operator woke up when the train jumped off the tracks and hit the escalator early Monday. More than 30 people were injured.
He says the woman told investigators she'd fallen asleep on the job in February, partially missing a station. CTA officials said their records showed the operator said she "closed her eyes for a moment" but she did not indicate that she "dozed off."
The CTA said it would reduce the speed of trains entering the station.
