Alabama lawmaker's lawyers ask to dismiss perjury charges

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Lawyers for an Enterprise legislator accused of perjury want a quick hearing on their request to dismiss the charges, saying the indictment is being used to interfere in the upcoming election.

Lawyers for Republican Rep. Barry Moore filed the motion Thursday. Defense attorney Bill Baxley says the timing of the indictment will interfere with the June 3 primary in which Moore is facing re-election.

Moore's defense lawyers filed court papers Wednesday seeking to dismiss the charges. They argued that there are multiple flaws in the indictment.

Prosecutors have accused Moore of testifying falsely before a special grand jury.
