Old Northgate Mall movie theater being converted into 34 beauty salons

The former Northgate movie theater building in Hixson is being converted into a suite of 34 hair style salons.

Scott and Jana Matsinger have obtained a local franchise for Salons by JC and plan to redevelop the vacant theater building into a 6,500-square-foot complex of salon spaces to rent to beauty professionals to start their own businesses with less initial investment.

CBL & Associates Properties Inc., the Chattanooga-based development company that owns Northgate Mall, said the front of the salon will feature an entirely new façade along with an exterior entrance into the new facility. Once complete, the Northgate location will feature fully equipped, high-end suites that will offer a full range of beauty services including; hair care, massage therapy, nail and skin care.

"We needed a high traffic shopping hub and this location was just what we were looking for," Matsinger said in an announcement of the new business today.

Northgate Mall General Manager Steve Banks said the new business will be the first of its kind in Chattanooga.

"It's a perfect fit for our savvy shoppers," Banks said.
