Voting picks up, some Hamilton County Democrats disappointed

Voters came in a steadier stream this afternoon than they did this morning at Soddy-Daisy Senior Citizen Center, the the polling place for precincts 1 and 4 in Soddy-Daisy. By 5 p.m. 244 people had voted. Electoral Officer Joleen Lemons said it had been busy since about 3 p.m.

There have been no problems today, Lemons said, but some voters were surprised to see how skimpy the Democratic ballot is in today's primary. In fact, many people who intended to vote as Democrats changed their minds, Lemons said.

"Once they get up there and the see their form, they change from Democrat to Republican," she said. "That happened quite a bit today."

Marion Jenkins came to the polls this afternoon hoping to send Fred Skillern back to office as District 1's County Commissioner. She cited his experience, and the facts that he is a good listener and business man, as the reasons she voted for him.

The Hamilton County Election Commission said Tuesday afternoon that voting has gone smoothly across the county today. Polls close at 8 p.m. tonight.
