Soddy-Daisy buys emergency notification system

The city of Soddy-Daisy now has an efficient way of informing its citizens about emergency situations. The city has purchased a citizen alert system from Everbridge.

The system will inform citizens of any type of emergency, from tornado alerts and severe thunderstorm warnings to a water-main break or gas leak. And it has the capability to inform just citizens within a specific area, said Burt Johnson, city recorder and financial director.

Citizens with a landline are automatically connected to the system. Those who only have a cellphone or who would rather be contacted over their cellphone by text or voicemail need to go to the city's website to opt into the system.

The system is available to Soddy-Daisy residents only, Johnson said. Contact information is kept confidential and will not be shared with other parties, he noted.

To sign up, Soddy-Daisy residents can visit soddy-daisy.org.
