Dayton Boulevard
Part of the south end of Dayton Boulevard will be closed for four nights beginning tonight while workers demolish the old exit ramp bridge from U.S. Highway 27 north.
The demolition is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, weather permitting, a news release from the Tennessee Department of Transportation stated. It is also weather permitting.
Traffic traveling toward Chattanooga from Red Bank won't be able to use the Stringer's Ridge tunnel.
Instead, drivers will be detoured to U.S. 27 south, then to Manfacturers Road and Cherokee Boulevard.
The tunnel will be open for drivers heading from Chattanooga into Red Bank, but traffic will be restricted to a single lane and periodic delays are expected, according to the release.
If the work is canceled because of weather, it will be rescheduled for the next available day, the release stated.
TDOT is rebuilding and widening U.S. 27 from Signal Mountain Road to the Tennessee River. The $102 million project is scheduled to be completed in February 2015.
