Chattanooga police have arrested two suspects in connection with an April 17 North Willow Street drive-by shooting.
Edward "Beans" Dewayne Duckett, 19, and Brandon "Bubba" Devon Arnold, 21, were picked up by Chattanooga police on Tuesday at the Hamilton County Probation Office on Dayton Boulevard in Hixson on charges in the April shooting.
Duckett has been charged with accessory after the fact and conspiracy to commit attempted first-degree murder. Arnold was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and attempted first-degree murder.
On April 17, police responded to the 300 block of North Willow Street on a call of a person shot. According to witnesses, the victim had gotten off a city bus and was walking down the road in a work uniform when a white sport utility vehicle drove by, its passengers firing multiple times.
According to the police report, Paul Haden, 21, was found suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, and was rushed to surgery at Erlanger hospital before speaking to police.
On April 21, investigators learned that Haden was off his ventilator and out of the intensive care unit, and that he wanted to prosecute the people who had shot him.
Haden told investigators that while he was walking down the street, a white SUV driven by Duckett had come up behind him, with Arnold and another suspect in the back seat. According to the police report, Haden told police that Arnold and the other suspect had been shooting at him from the back seat. The suspects fled the scene immediately following the shooting.
Erlanger officials report that they currently have no patient listed by the name of Paul Haden.
Haden has a short criminal history consisting of a disorderly conduct charge in 2011 when he was 18.
Duckett's criminal history consists of three separate charges over the past year for marijuana possession, but Arnold's criminal history is more diverse.
According to Hamilton County Criminal Court records, in the past Arnold has been charged with civil rights intimidation, offensive touching, possession of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, possession of a handgun while under the influence and a couple counts of possession of marijuana for resale.
Both Arnold and Duckett have, themselves, also been victims of gun violence in the past.
Duckett was shot in the back, leg and hand in June of 2013 at 1006 Tunnel Blvd. Witnesses told police that Duckett had been outside when he and the suspects began shooting at each other. The suspects fled when Duckett was shot.
Police responded to 1114 Tunnel Blvd. when Arnold was shot in the right hip in November of 2011, according to newspaper archives. Arnold told police that he had been shot at 1307 Tunnel Blvd., but had walked to the other address to report it. Police were unable to find a crime scene at either location.
Both incidents occurred within a couple of blocks of each other.
Arnold and Duckett were being held on a $100,000 bond. Arnold is listed as still being in custody at the jail, but Duckett appears to have made bail.
Both Duckett and Arnold are scheduled to appear in Hamilton County Sessions Court before Judge David Bales on May 20.
