Roughly $2.2 million worth of construction work to patch and resurface some 14 miles of roads in Catoosa County, Ga., is about to get underway.

County officials know where the work will begin: Tuesday on Farming Rock Road, weather permitting.

And they know when the work will be done: Aug. 15.

The exact order in which Rossville-based Talley Construction Inc. will do the paving is uncertain. So instead of alphabetically listing the 15 roads due for repair, the county grouped nearby roads in the order they're likely to be fixed.

"We're just trying to give everybody a heads up," county Public Works inspector Jeremy Bryson said. "This is what we consider our spring paving."

County Projects Administrator Christal Thomas said, "The exact date they're going to be at which road, that's up to the contractor."

Crews won't "crack seal" the roads, or dribble tarlike material into cracks, as has been done on roads such as Battlefield Parkway.

"We deep patch all the bad areas," Bryson said.

Also, some of the roads that are gravel now will get a more durable "chip seal" surface.

The roads will stay open during construction, Bryson said, though lanes may be closed.

"They'll set up the typical traffic control," he said.

Talley was the low bidder on April 10 when four companies' bids were opened for the project, which is funded by roughly $1.7 million in special purpose local option sales tax money, a tax of one cent per $1 of sales, plus about $528,000 in Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant funding from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
