The two Walker County, Ga., men named as suspects in the Oct. 20 slaying of a Cherokee County, Ala., man have been extradited to Alabama to face murder charges.

Jeremiah Jackson, 21, of 932 Garretts Chapel Road, Chickamauga, and 36-year-old Darrell Burgess of 1015 Lee Ave., Rossville, are each being held on $500,000 bond at the Cherokee County Jail in connection with the fatal shooting of 39-year-0ld Billy Ingram, a resident of the Farill community east of the town of Cedar Bluff, according to jail officials in Centre, Ala.

Jail records show that Jackson was transferred from Walker County to Cherokee County on Oct. 27 while Burgess made the trip across state lines Oct. 29.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said investigators still can't talk much about details in the case.

Authorities launched an investigation into Ingram's slaying after his body was found about 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 20 by deputies and officers with the Cedar Bluff Police Department. Ingram had been shot to death at his home off of County Road 199, Shaver said.

Shaver said Monday that the shooting was reported to authorities by another person who was at the property at the time of the shooting. The sheriff was unable to talk about whether Ingram was armed, the type of weapon used in the shooting or the motive behind the slaying.

According to his obituary information at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Ingram was a native of Floyd County and worked as an auto mechanic. He is survived by his parents, a sister and brother.

Jackson and Burgess had initial court appearances on their charges and bond hearings last week and remain behind bars.
