Harrison car theft suspect in custody in Georgia

The man who nearly ran over two Hamilton County deputies in a stolen car on Friday, causing one lawman to fire his weapon, has been arrested in Catoosa County, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Thomas Lebron Hughes, 29, is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment with a weapon, the sheriff's office said.

In Hamilton County, Hughes has previously been charged with several assaults; multiple charges of driving on a revoked license; vandalism, harassment, unlawful possession of a weapon, burglary, drug-related charges and multiple thefts, according to his criminal history.

The latest incident happened when deputies arrived at 8903 Bramlett Road in Harrison around noon on Friday, after they received a report that a stolen vehicle was at that residence.

Upon arrival, deputies identified Hughes, who tried to drive off, according to a previous news release. He recklessly drove the vehicle toward the deputies, and at that point one of the officers fired his weapon at least once.

Hughes drove off, but abandoned the vehicle, which was found to be stolen. The second stolen vehicle was also found at the residence. He was arrested in Catoosa County on Saturday, and his bond is not yet known.
