UPDATE: Police confirm 1 killed in Collegedale plane crash (video)

UPDATE: A single-engine plane crashed in a field at the 9500 block of Ooltewah Industrial Drive in Collegedale, Tenn., killing the pilot.

The plane crashed around 3:20 p.m. and the pilot was the only passenger, according to David Myrick, public information officer for the Collegedale Police Department.

Investigators look at the wreckage of a single-engine plane that crashed Wednesday afternoon in a field near Ooltewah Industrial Drive. The plane's pilot was killed in the crash.

According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the plane was traveling from Knoxville, Tenn. to Jackson, Miss., and is owned by Empire Equipment LLC.

The FAA will be taking over the ongoing investigation, but due to traffic delays have still not arrived on scene, according to officials.
