RINGGOLD, Ga. - A woman who faked her own pregnancy shot and killed a mother of two because she wanted the baby, Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk said in a news conference this morning.

The shooting happened Friday, Sep. 19, at 227 Smoke-tree Circle in Ringgold, Ga.

30-year-old Natalia Brianne Roberts of LaFayette was killed by 37-year-old Catherine Goins of Hixson, Sisk said.

The two had only just met the morning of the shooting, he said, and did not previously know each other.

Goins lured Roberts to a friend's home by saying she wanted to give her baby clothes, Sisk said. There were no baby clothes.

Roberts brought along her two kids, who were present at the time of the shooting.

Goins has been charged with murder.

Sisk said Goins lost a boyfriend who she lied to by saying she was pregnant. She wanted to take the baby, and pretend her boyfriend was the dad, he said.

Goins also has custody of a teenage girl.

The homeowner, Tony Richards, was Goins' ex-boyfriend. He let her stay at his place and did not know the victim. He was at work during the shooting and is facing no charges.

Sisk said Richards and Goins talked on the phone after the shooting. Richards reportedly told her to call 911, but instead, Sisk said Goins took Roberts' two children, a 3-year-old and a 3-week-old, and fled with them in her car.

Richards stayed on the phone while Goins fled and encouraged her to calm down and return to the residence, Sisk said.

When she returned, Goins told police a different story. She said she heard strange noises in the home, called out twice, and picked up a gun to shoot.

Goins was arrested at a Marion County residence last night around 7 p.m. She is awaiting extradition to Georgia.

This is a developing story. Stay with the Times Free Press for more details as they come in.
