KNOXVILLE -- A 4-year-old Ringgold, Ga., boy drowned in a hotel pool in Knoxville on Sunday.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, several families were playing in and around the pool at the Quality Inn Water Park on Cedar Bluff Road when a man felt something bump his leg beneath the water. It was the body of Anderson Cooper Goldsmith, who was there with family members. The man pulled the child from the water and began CPR while paramedics were called. The boy was transported to Children's Hospital in Knoxville, where he was pronounced dead.
Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darryl DeBusk said that the child had been wearing a flotation device, though it was "removed prior to entering the water." He said there was a lot of activity in and around the pool, which may have been why people didn't notice the child struggling. He also said Alexander was one of eight children in his family, though he was unsure how many of them were at the waterside Sunday.
The death has been ruled accidental.
