MARYVILLE -- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a man shot by a police officer in East Tennessee was armed with a BB gun.
The TBI told media that the BB gun didn't carry marks to distinguish it from a more powerful gun.
TBI spokesman Josh DeVine says the TBI is investigating the shooting Tuesday night of 40-year-old Jason Halfacre at the request of Blount County District Attorney General Mike Flynn. Officials said Halfacre was shot in the abdomen. He was admitted to University of Tennessee Medical Center, where his condition is listed as confidential.
Maryville police Officer Kevin Fuller responded to a domestic dispute call. The TBI said Halfacre approached with what appeared to be a pistol and continued to pursue Fuller after he went back to the street and that Fuller then fired, striking Halfacre.
Fuller was placed on paid leave pending the investigation.
