The search committee's choice of Lesley Scearce is a recommendation to United Way's board, which will vote on it Wednesday.
The president and CEO of the local nonprofit youth development organization On Point is a search committee's unanimous choice to lead the United Way of Greater Chattanooga.
Lesley Scearce will join the United Way as president and CEO this summer before current President Eva Dillard retires in August, according to an email sent today to agency executives and board leaders on behalf of Tom Glenn with the search committee.
"We believe Lesley has the experience and skills necessary to lead United Way into the next decade as the greater Chattanooga area continues to undergo significant change and growth," Glenn said in the email. "Her ability to lead a team, work effectively with partners and supporters, drive measurable impact, build strategically and clearly communicate are some of the skills that will serve our United Way well."
Scearce, a native of Chattanooga, received her bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond and her master's degree in public administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
She has been with On Point for 15 years, more than 13 of those as president and CEO.
Under her leadership, On Point's youth development efforts reach 15,000 students from 52 area schools each year and involve partnerships with 50 community agencies.
