Dalton police: Man who kidnapped, sexually assaulted woman apprehended

Dalton Police will soon arrest 47-year-old Dennis Charles Watkins, of 303 Ricky Drive in Dalton, for his role in allegedly kidnapping an adult woman and holding her against her will in a hotel room.

Police said in a press release, Watkins picked up the woman Monday night from a pharmacy on Cleveland Highway. Police later found her car at the pharmacy and video surveillance of the woman leaving with Watkins.

The woman's family reported her missing and patrol officers today found Watkins' car at the Guest Inn on Chattanooga Road. After determining what room Watkins was in, police heard the victim cry out for help.

When officers kicked in the door, Watkins was reportedly armed with a knife and a pair of scissors. He immediately surrendered to police and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. He will be charged when he is released from the hospital, which will possibly be Wednesday, police said.

The victim reportedly had no serious injuries and told police she had been held against her will since 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The case is being investigated by both the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office and the Dalton Police Department.

The Sheriff's Office plans to charge Watkins with kidnapping.

Dalton Police plan to charge him with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, making terroristic threats and aggravated sodomy.
