A Fort Payne, Ala., man saw burglars stealing from a local business on Thursday and held them at gunpoint until deputies could arrive and arrest them, the DeKalb County sheriff said.
The man, whose identity was not released, told deputies he saw one man climbing into the rear window of the unidentified business on County Road 835. Then he saw two men come out the back door carrying merchandise, Sheriff Jimmy Harris said.
The man pulled a gun on the two burglars and called 911. The owners were notified and confirmed the merchandise came from their business, Harris said.
Deputies arrested Aubery Eugene McBride, 62, of Fort Payne, and Jason Scott McBride, 38, of Henegar on burglary charges
Harris thanked the resident whose alertness enabled the arrests.
"Even though we don't ever advise a citizen to put theirself in danger we are thankful that he did. The deputies were on scene within 7 minutes and were able to make these arrest without incident because of the citizens' actions," Harris said.
