Chattanooga police charge homeless man in string of burglaries

Chattanooga police have charged a homeless man in a string of eight burglaries that happened in Chattanooga between March and April.

Terry Highfield, 59, faces eight counts of burglary, seven counts of theft and four counts of vandalism.

Police tracked Highfield down by his vehicle, a white Ford Ranger. Highfield was living in a Motel 6 on Lee Highway. Officers searched his room and found several items in his room that linked him to the burglaries, according to police.

He was charged in connection with crimes at these locations:

April 24 -- Alternative Visions Hair, 6227 Lee Hwy.

April 22 -- Hamilton Hair Salon, 8115 E. Brainerd Road

April 19 -- Kid to Kid resale, 7047 Lee Hwy.

April 6 -- Maxi Muffler, 6673 Lee Hwy.

March 8 -- Bermuda Triangle, 7550 E. Brainerd Road

March 8 -- La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, 1932 Gunbarrel Road

March 7 -- Red Wing Shoes, 6231 Perimeter Drive

March 5 -- Providence Thrift Store, 6933 Lee Hwy.
