A man driving a Chevy Impala was injured at 5:16 p.m. Sunday after he crashed into a large recreational vehicle on Rossville Boulevard.

Leon Woods lives behind the Citgo gas station in the 4000 block of Rossville where the accident occurred. Woods said he saw it happen from his porch.

"It sounded like a bomb hit," he said as he watched wreckers load both vehicles on tow trucks.

Woods said he watched as the RV driver pulled out of the gas station and stopped at the stop sign.

The driver stopped, "but he didn't look," Woods said.

The driver turned left from 40th Street onto Rossville Boulevard just as the Impala driver came up Rossville driving toward downtown. Woods said the Impala driver had no time to react, and the front of the car crunched under the RV.

Woods ran to the Impala, jerked open the door and saw the driver with blood streaming down his face. The Chattanooga Fire Department extricated the car driver and he was taken to a local hospital.

Chattanooga police ask anyone with information about the crash to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing.
