Flower walks and a dog day are set for today at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne.

The wildflower walk on Backcountry Road 01 will explore flora, insects and other life in an older prescribed-fire area.

The walk leaves at 10 a.m. CDT from the check station on Cherokee County Road 103 near Alabama Highway 35 (just past the Martha Falls parking lot). Visitors should wear walking shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent and a camera, plus clothing to get in the water and a picnic lunch for after the program, if you wish. The hike will end at the Slant Rock river access area.

"Man's Best Friend Day" is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT at the Little River Canyon Center on Alabama Highway 35. Staff and volunteers have planned a day of fun for pets and people, including treats for pets, doggie games and stories, prizes for "best dressed" and for "best tricks," plus dog tales, paw art, enrichment "sniffing" hikes, educational programs, adopt-a- pet opportunities and more.

Catch the live "Bluegrass Folk Jam" with the Gypsy Begonias at noon.
