GADSDEN, Ala. - A man being retried for capital murder in the 2006 death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son says the boy's mother caused his fatal injuries.

The Gadsden Times reports Kevin Towles said Tuesday that Shalinda Glass caused injuries that led to the death of her son, Geontae and he lied to investigators because she threatened to report drug crimes that he was involved in.

Towles was found guilty of capital murder but the Alabama Supreme Court in 2014 overturned his conviction because of improper testimony.

Shalinda Glass has pleaded guilty to murder in her son's death and the boy's 16-year-old sister testified that she last saw Geontae alert and conscious when Towles took him outside.

Towles and Glass are accused of staging a carjacking to conceal the boy's death.
