MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A jury has found Memphis police officer Cornelius Monger guilty of statutory rape and incest.

The Commercial Appeal reports the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit began investigating the case in October after receiving reports that Monger was engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a relative. The sheriff's office says in a release that witnesses and the victim came forward to corroborate the allegations, adding that the abuse began when the victim was 16. Monger is 34.

Monger's bond has been revoked and he is due in court for sentencing Jan. 15. Prior to his arrest, he was assigned to the Old Allen Station. He has been relieved of duty with pay since the investigation began.

Monger has been employed by the Memphis Police Department since July 2006.
