Grocery Bar announced Thursday morning that it was closing for good and selling everything except alcohol 50 percent off, up until Saturday, when the store was to close its doors for good.

But owners of the Southside grocer said hours later that after hearing the voices of Chattanoogans, the store would remain open. Owners did not respond to requests for comments. Employees were disgruntled Thursday afternoon, as customers packed into store and walked away with half-priced merchandise.

Employees did not know whether staying open meant staying open for another day, another month or another year.

Employees say the kitchen will close for good on Saturday.
