Man answering door stabbed in neck with machete in Dalton, Ga.

A stabbing at an apartment complex in Whitfield County, Ga., sent a Tunnel Hill man to the hospital on Wednesday, Sheriff Scott Chitwood says.

According to a news release, officers were called to an apartment complex on Florence Avenue at 2:45 p.m., where they found a man sitting on a couch bleeding from the neck.

The victim, Richard Damon Darrah, 20, and others in the apartment said three to four other men knocked on the door. When Darrah, who was visiting the apartment, opened the door, one of the men said, "Do you remember me?"

Darrah replied no, whereupon one man stabbed him in the neck with a machete. The assailant left with the others. Darrah was treated at Hamilton Medical Center and has been released, the release stated.

At that time one of the suspects produced a machete and stabbed him in the neck. The subjects then fled from the scene. Investigators are working to identify everyone involved in the incident and to determine a motive.
