Winter Storm Watch: Up to 6 inches of snow expected Wednesday; latest school closings

A winter storm warning is in effect from 9 a.m. CST Wednesday until 3 a.m. Thursday for northern Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee. Moderate snowfall is expected.

The warning includes Jackson, DeKalb, Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall, and Cullman counties.

Alabama governor Robert Bentley has declared a state of emergency for the area.

Travel problems are expected.

Snow is predicted to initially mix with light sleet in Northwest Alabama between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. before spreading across all of Northern Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee.

Southern Tennessee and far Northern Alabama can expect two to four inches of snow, according to forecasts.

South of the Tennessee River is expected to see between four and six inches of snow with as much as seven inches in Cullman County.
