CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- An 88-year-old Bradley County woman has been transported to a Georgia burn treatment center after suffering injuries in a house fire at 765 Hancock Road late Friday morning.

The woman, whose name has been withheld until her family is notified, was treated for severe smoke inhalation at the scene, said Stan Clark, spokesman for Bradley County Emergency Services.

"The victim was given CPR and a pulse was restored," said Clark.

Clark and the Bradley County Sheriff's Office said the woman was stabilized at SkyRidge Medical Center and transferred to a burn center in Birmingham, Ala., and Marietta, Ga.

A neighbor who entered the home was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, said Chief Troy Maney of Bradley County Fire & Rescue.

There were several pets in the house; one cat was rescued but other pets were lost, he said.

At 11:31 a.m., Cleveland Bradley 911 received a call from the victim, who said that the fire began while she was cooking on her stove, Maney said.

Emergency personnel were on the scene by 11:39 a.m., according to dispatch records.

The victim reportedly had no burn marks, he said.

Clark said severe inhalation of smoke and hot air would require treatment at a burn center.

"The house suffered quite a bit of damage," Maney said. "About 50 percent of it burned. The fire went through the attic and reached the roof."

The victim's home also sustained water and smoke damage, he said.

The state's bomb and arson section is investigating the fire, Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson said.
