The Chattanooga City Council has approved the appointment of former Mayor Jon Kinsey to the city's Electric Power Board.

Kinsey is filling the spot left by Harold Coker, who died in November.

Kinsey has worked in commercial, mixed-use, residential and public development projects both before and after his service as mayor of Chattanooga from 1997 to 2001.

He worked as treasurer for a Coca-Cola bottler, Johnston Southern, before co-founding the Leonard Kinsey Co. in 1984. He serves or has served on the board of the Tennessee Aquarium, River City Co., Baylor School, Siskin Hospital and the United Way, and was formerly a chairman of the Chattanooga Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He studied math and economics at Boston university and at Schiller College at the University of Heidelberg.

Kinsey's son, Adam Kinsey, operates the Track 29 music venue.
