Two East Ridge Middle School students brought a gun and a knife to school today, according to East Ridge police.

Both students were arrested after an unidentified student passed a written note to a teacher that named a student and indicated that the named student had a gun, according to Corporal Robert Wade.

The school resource officer immediately pulled the student from class and performed a patdown, during which the officer discovered a revolver.

The student told the officer he was holding the gun for another student. When the second student was also pulled from class and searched, police found a knife in his pocket.

The second student admitted that he'd had the gun on the bus on Thursday, but did not say that he'd given it to the first student, Wade said.

Both students were arrested and transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center. They will not be identified by the Times Free Press because they are minors.

"There was no incident of violence, no known threats made, and no injuries," Wade wrote in an emailed release.
