ATLANTA -- The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles heard from supporters of a death row inmate scheduled to die this week but declined to make a decision in the case.

The board held a clemency hearing for Warren Lee Hill Monday morning. The board said Monday evening that it would make a decision before 7 p.m. Tuesday, when Hill is set to be executed.

Hill was serving a life sentence for the 1986 slaying of his girlfriend when he killed a fellow inmate. A jury in 1991 convicted Hill of murder and sentenced him to death.

Hill's lawyers have argued that he is intellectually disabled.

The Parole Board is the only entity in Georgia with the authority to reduce a death sentence to a life sentence.
