The second-degree murder and aggravated animal cruelty trial of Chance Loftis took a break Wednesday after noon but is expected to continue this morning.

Loftis, 27, and Travis Jenkins, 31, are both charged in the 2012 death of Donald "PeeWee" Rogers.

Judge Don Poole dismissed jurors just before noon Wednesday. Loftis' attorney, Mary Sullivan Moore, said she was awaiting an expert witness who wouldn't arrive in Chattanooga until late Wednesday. When the jury was out, Poole said it made more sense to have them return today than to have them wait all afternoon.

Closing arguments in the case are expected today.
