Chattanooga Police Department Officer Alex Olson released a statement through his attorney at Davis & Hoss, P.C., saying that police Chief Fred Fletcher's decision to suspended him for 30 days without pay for firing his weapon is not supported by federal law or policy.

On Wednesday, Fletcher sustained a finding of "improper use of force -- discharge of a firearm," giving Olson the maximum suspension allowed by Chattanooga city code.

In October, Olson fired his weapon at a fleeing vehicle, after the vehicle rammed into his patrol car.
