Lightning struck a Soddy Daisy home Thursday evening, causing an estimated $350,000 in damages.

Kelsey Jenkins, the homeowner at 2119 Port Royal Drive, was not home at the time. There were no injuries, but the house is a total loss, according to Amy Maxwell, public information officer for Emergency Services at Hamilton County Government.

A neighbor called 911 Thursday evening after seeing lightning strike the chimney. Within minutes, fire showed on the roof line.

The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call and reported heavy fire through the roof and the entire back of the house. The fire department requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower because of the significant amount of fire. Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department and Red Bank Fire Department responded to the scene.

The homeowner was insured and will stay with family.
