Police: Man beaten with bat while impaled on fence

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Tuscaloosa County jail records say a man accused of beating someone who was partially impaled on a fence is being held on $15,000 bond.

Capt. Gary Hood says witnesses told police a man who was being chased Monday night at an apartment complex tried scaling a pool fence but landed on it and was partially impaled in his abdomen. Witnesses told investigators Marshall Davenport beat the man with a bat while he was stuck on the fence.

Hood says Davenport fled before police arrived and the victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center.

It's unclear if Davenport has an attorney and details on the circumstances surrounding the incident weren't immediately available.

Hood says police are looking to speak with other witnesses who haven't spoken with investigators yet.
