A homeowner bit off a part of his attacker's ear during a robbery in Chattanooga last night, police say.

Authorities say the home invasion happened just before midnight at 5 Viston Ave.

The 40-year-old homeowner told police he was in bed when he heard a knock at the door.

The suspect told the victim he was experiencing car trouble and asked to use the phone, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Once the victim let the suspect inside, the suspect attacked the victim, the release said.

After part of his ear was bitten off, the suspect fled in a blue Jeep Liberty with a broken tail light on the passenger side.

The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect is a white man between 30 and 35 years old, weighing around 155 pounds, and 5'9 in height. He has a scar on his left eyebrow.
