Whitfield County and Tunnel Hill, Ga., authorities are jointly investigating what appears to be an accidental drowning that happened Sunday afternoon on Oak Street.

Tunnel Hill Police Chief Roy Brunson said 57-year-old Danny Patterson was found by his wife in the couple's pool around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

"They were out there by the pool and she went in. When she came back out he was in there," Brunson said.

Brunson said that since the cause of death was uncertain, he asked for assistance from Whitfield County Sheriff's detectives.

There were no signs of foul play and Brunson said he suspected the drowning was accidental or might have been related to medical problems.

An autopsy should shed some light on what happened, the chief said.
