Gary Dewayne Couey, 34, a Chattanooga man who lives on Hunter Road, was arrested after allegedly admitting to police that he was shining a green laser pointer at passing vehicles on I-75 North in Bradley County.

Police were alerted when another driver called 911 and said that a male in the front passenger seat of a silver Honda was shining the laser onto cars and even an 18-wheeler, "nearly causing an accident," according to a news release.

Bradley County officers pulled Couey over on South Lee Highway, obtained a statement from him and then charged him with felony reckless endangerment, before booking him into Bradley County Jail.

The driver of the car, Brandi Rapier, 34, of Ooltewah, was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

The laser pointer is being held as evidence in the case.
