A vacant house at 5406 Dorsey Street was destroyed by fire on Saturday night. When firefighters arrived on the scene about 6:30 p.m., there was heavy smoke and fire visible, according to Captain Scott McCullough.

At first, the firefighters entered the house through the front door, to try to put out the fire from the inside. But the conditions inside were too dangerous, and Lt. Darryl Horn ordered everyone to come back out. It took the firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

The fire caused an estimated at $40,000 worth of damage to the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
