TBI probes shooting of suspect by deputy

JACKSBORO, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting of a Campbell County man by a deputy there.

According to the bureau, deputies first encountered 41-year-old Donnie Ledford Saturday evening while responding to a 911 call. Ledford is accused of pointing a revolver at a deputy before fleeing and firing off three shots.

The next day at about 4:50 p.m. a deputy saw Ledford, stopped him and asked him for identification. Ledford is accused of pointing a gun at the deputy, who fired two shots at Ledford, striking him at least once.

Ledford was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was being treated. A .357 revolver was recovered at the scene. The investigation is at the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler.
