NORCROSS, Ga. -- Investigators believe a man stabbed his sister to death in a Norcross home before taking his own life, killings that went undiscovered for nearly two months, police said Wednesday.

Norcross police identified the woman as 49-year-old Glenda Nguyen, who had been renting the home the past few months. They identified the man as 45-year-old Hoang Nguyen, who police believe was Glenda Nguyen's brother. They had lived together in the home northeast of Atlanta, authorities said.

"Investigators believe the male stabbed the female twice, once in the back and once in the abdomen, before taking his own life," police said in a statement Wednesday, adding that this is the preliminary finding by the medical examiner and investigators.

"The reason for this horrific event is currently unknown," police added.

The bodies were discovered Monday afternoon, after a man cutting grass flagged down an officer and said he smelled something coming from the home.

Police said they believe the deaths happened around the first week of June. The brother and sister had no relationships with their neighbors, and the deaths went undiscovered for the next seven weeks.

"Glenda worked at a nail salon but was not close to anyone there," police said in the statement. "Employees there assumed she had returned to Vietnam when she did not return to work."

The brother and sister were both born in Vietnam, and investigators have been working with the U.S. State Department in an attempt to locate relatives in that nation. Norcross police say no friends of the two have been identified, and they're asking anyone who can provide background information about them to contact police.
