Chattanooga police officers have arrested Christopher Merriman and charged him for attempted first degree murder after an assault that left his older sister in the hospital with life threatening head trauma.

Police arrived at a home at Trailwood Drive around 10 p.m. on Saturday to find Elizabeth Merriman, 54, laying in a hallway suffering from severe injuries to the head, according to a news release.
