NASHVILLE -- Gov. Bill Haslam will be the featured guest in Chattanooga on Thursday at a benefit honoring the Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti (CNP), a faith-based organization headquartered in Chattanooga.

"CNP is a tremendous program and is doing great work in the country of Haiti. We are blessed as Tennesseans to have so many people in our state volunteering their time to do great things not just here at home, but across the world," Haslam said in a statement.

The Children's Nutrition Program of Haiti operates in the southwestern part of the country in the city of Leogane, near the epicenter of the devastating 2010 earthquake.

Dr. Mitch Mutter of Hamilton County founded the organization in 1998. CNP coordinates with and hires local Haitians to work with communities so they are self sufficient and healthy.

Chris Devaney, former Tennessee Republican Party chairman, recently became the group's executive director. Thursday's event is at 6 p.m. (EDT) at the Waterhouse Pavilion in downtown Chattanooga's Miller Plaza.
