Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke has named a new leader for the city's fire department.

Chris Adams, who has been serving as interim fire chief since former Chief Lamar Flint retired in April, will now lead as fire chief.

"Chief Adams has faithfully served our citizens for decades and he is a natural choice to lead the Chattanooga Fire Department," Berke said. "I am pleased to make this appointment and I have full faith that Chief Adams will be exceptional in this position."

Adams has worked for the Chattanooga Fire Department since 1990. The Chattanooga City Council is slated to vote on the appointment during its regular meeting next week.

Adams said he was honored by the appointment and looks forward to taking the helm of the department.

"I have spent the last 27 years working in the fire service, preparing for this position of leadership," Adams said. "I am honored by Mayor Andy Berke's appointment and I will do my absolute best to lead a great team to make this fire department the best it can be."
