Skeletal remains found near Tims Ford Lake

Winchester, Tenn., police are investigating skeletal remains found near Tims Ford Lake after a worker accidentally hit the body with a piece of heavy equipment earlier today.

Winchester Police Chief Dennis Young said that police suspect they know the identity of the remains found at the dead end on North Vine Street but are awaiting confirmation from a forensics investigation team before making any announcements.

Young said a worker mowing near the shoreline struck the remains with the equipment.

"It was on TVA property on the shores of Tims Ford Lake," Young said on Friday.

Young said authorities believe the body is that of a man who went missing around the first of the year. The man lived near the area where the remains were found, he said.

"We do not suspect foul play," Young said.
