A grand jury indicted Rhasean Lowry, 35, Wednesday on charges related the August death of 3-year-old Tatiana Emerson.

Lowry is charged with felony murder, aggravated child abuse, rape of a child and making false reports in the case. He was also indicted on a charge of child abuse after Emerson's 5-year-old brother said Lowry regularly beat him.

The indictment came the same day the children's mother, Melanie, was charged with aggravated child endangerment. The charge means prosecutors believe the mother knew of the abuse and failed to protect her children from Lowry.

Police said Tatiana died of blunt-force trauma to her head, and an autopsy later revealed she had been raped.

Lowry is expected to appear before Judge Don Poole March 27.
